God Has Told Us What Is Good

This meditation is based on a passage for October 22, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Micah 6:1-8

Reflection and Question: I have never been very good at citing chapter and verse from Scripture but this is a passage I do know simply as Micah 6:8. The preacher has asked the perennial question: With what shall I come before God? And the answer forms the foundation for my inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in the church. I am to do justice, to love kindness and to walk humbly with God. When LGBT Presbyterians feel to the depth of their being that they are called by God to serve in ordained ministry, I will walk humbly and love kindness and do justice. How do you walk humbly, love kindness, and do justice?

Prayer: God of all, You have made plain how we are to live: “Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don’t take yourself too seriously — take God seriously.” Easy to say, hard to do, help us each day. Amen.
